DCA has undertaken a number of marine accident investigations both within and outside of Australia. These investigations generally support those undertaken by the relevant maritime authority. DCA has gained significant experience particularly in incidents where tug(s) and/or pilotage was considered to be an important factor. However our shipping expertise has also extended to regional incidents involving large foreign flagged vessels.

Following an incident during which the “Regal Princess” touched bottom at Cairns in March 2001, DCA in association with Queensland’s Department of Transport developed a Vessel Assessment Model. The purpose of this model was to identify the suitability of the Cairns shipping channels to accommodate large passenger vessels under various environmental conditions.
