Following an incident during which the “Regal Princess” touched bottom at Cairns in March 2001, DCA in association with Queensland’s Department of Transport developed a Vessel Assessment Model. The purpose of this model was to identify the suitability of the Cairns shipping channels to accommodate large passenger vessels under various environmental conditions.
